The History

SurgiPROTECT™ began just over a decade ago when a group of forward thinking surgeons, risk management professionals, and liability experts envisioned a malpractice insurance program designed specifically for bariatric surgeons and their unique practices. It was developed with the goal in mind to help general surgery and bariatric programs not only manage liability and risk, but more importantly, enhance the quality of patient care and safety.

The program evolved alongside improvements and changes in the bariatric specialty and procedures, new and less invasive techniques developed, one national accreditation standard for bariatric surgery centers, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP),  was introduced, the healthcare environment changed.
